Its ok - worth checking out
Im not sure I totally understand the purpose of this app. Its not really a game, but it kinda is. Its obviously not a simulation, yet it tries to be - using real life discs from major manufacturers and claiming the flight paths are true and realistic. How the app works is it randomly generates a hole, and allows you to pick a disc. And off you go. You can choose control or power shots, you can control the release angle, and you can zoom in and aim left, right, up, and down relative to your target (the basket). Then you swipe from disc to the top of the screen to send the disc flying. You are shown a percentage of your "power" of the swipe, and personally, I cant get that power higher than 89%. And thats kind of frustrating. Ive tried really fast swipes, slow swipes, as well as steady and kind of quick - which is what I get the best results with. But again, Ive not hit 90%, let alone 100%. At any rate, the swipe mechanic and floating disc in the air makes this like a supercharged, way better iDisc Golf - a game available in the App Store. However, that brings me to the most frustrating thing about this app (notice I dont say "game") - the app tells you your strokes for the hole it generated, and thats it! Youre done and off to the next randomly generated hole and only your memory recalls the score on that last hole. There are no "rounds", no 18 holes/ baskets, no progressive score keeping - nothing. Just go to the next hole and have at it again. If the developer allowed for score keeping over the course of 18 randomly generated holes, Id give this 4 stars. But sadly, it does not. And finally, the terrain is all very similar - rocky, open trees, and grass. Id love to see wooded holes, like "in the woods." That along with full round score keeping would bring 5 stars. As it stands, its kind of a thing that you play, and it kind of gives you an idea how various discs fly. And thats about it. Its ok, but I still pine for a full blown "Tiger Woods" of disc golf games, and I think iOS is the perfect platform for it.
